Visvesvaraya is known for his contributions in the making of floodgates which were
installed at various dams across India including the Khadakvasla reservoir
near Pune, Gwalior’s Tigra dam and Mysuru’s Krishnaraja Sagara (KRS)
dam.He is best known for his discourse “Planned Economy for
India and Reconstructing India” which is the first of its kind to describe the
country’s planning efforts.
When he was serving as Diwan of Mysore , he was knighted as commander of the British Indian Empire in 1915 by King George V and was awarded with Bharat Ratna in 1955 and later a fellowship from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.He was a member of the London Institution of
Civil Engineers and Visvesvaraya
Technological University in Belagavi is named after him.
